The Shannara Chronicles: S1 E1-2

‘The Shannara Chronicles’ is a new TV series based on the best-selling fantasy novels by Terry Brooks. Set thousands of years after the destruction of our civilization, the story follows an Elven Princess, Amberle, a half-human half-elf, Wil, and a human, Eretria, as they embark on a quest to stop a Demon army from destroying the Four Lands.

I’ve been hearing the whispers of this show on the blogosphere and on Booktube and finally looked it up.

Guys, this show is GOOD!

Are you thinking, “But wait, MTV is cringeworthy?”. I did too.  Just trust me on this and watch the first 5 minutes.  You won’t regret it.  All the skeptical Sally’s became believers and ended up watching the 2 hour long (!!) episode.

The characters are diverse and beautiful.  There’s also a great mix of fantasy, magic, and mystical beings (ahem, elves).

The special effects are pretty impressive for the homeland of Jersey Shore

Also, there’s a lot of actions.  You see many different things going on at once.  It reminds me a little of Game of Thrones.

I definitely recommend you checking it out!  Let me know if you’ve read the books, I’m not sure if I should also read them. :]

Shadowhunters | S1 E1

GUYSSS!!! It’s finally out!

I had to watch it today on Freeform’s website because I just came back from my month long vacation frolicking adventure in Colombia.

“Based on the bestselling young adult fantasy book series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, Shadowhunters follows Clary Fray, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters – human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. Now thrown into the world of demon hunting after her mother is kidnapped, Clary must rely on the mysterious Jace and his fellow Shadowhunters Isabelle and Alec to navigate this new dark world. With her best friend, Simon, in tow, Clary must now live among faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves to find answers that could help her find her mother.

Nothing is as it seems, including her close family friend Luke, who knows more than he is letting on, as well as the enigmatic warlock Magnus Bane, who could hold the key to unlocking Clary’s past.”

I’ve read A LOT of praise and criticism.  I think a huge issue is that people thinks it’s straying too much from the books… which it does.  This TV show is admitted as a loose interpretation of Clare’s Mortal Instruments series.  With that being said, I like it!  Mind you, some of the scene’s are laugh worthy because of how poorly done they are:

And there are also some super funny moments

Simon: “Where are you? Find My Friends says your phone is in an abandoned church on Dighton. I’m outside.”
Clary: “I see you.”
Simon: “I don’t see you”
Clary: “Give me five minutes I have to put on some clothes get dressed”
Simon: “Dressed? What do you mean get dressed? Clary, is there a meth problem we need to talk about?”

I find myself comparing the acting/actors to their counterparts in the Mortal Instruments movie, which is kind of frustrating because although the movie was bad I still kind of loved it.  I liked the movie’s Clary Fray A LOT, but I’m starting to like the TV one.

I’m really excited to see where they go with the next episode. Eeeeeek. n___n
