Slumps are for Chumps | Spending $100, huzzah!

Happy Wednesday! ūüôā ¬†AKA¬†Happy Go For Broke Day¬†AKA¬†Happy¬†Typical Post-College Life Day. ¬†It’s another day in the Slumps are for Chumps¬†book blogging adventure (take part¬†here!).¬†Today’s prompt is:

How‚Äôs your dream bookshelf looking, sparse? How‚Äôs your TBR, overflowing?¬† Today is¬†National¬†‚ÄúGo for Broke‚ÄĚ Day,¬†and in honor of it I‚Äôm metaphorically giving you $100 to buy whatever bookish things you want.¬† Your job? Let the blogging community know how¬†you¬†would spend that $100.¬† Remember: ONLY BOOKISH ITEMS.

OKAY WOW.  So I have $2.59 left over.  What would I do? Lord knows.  Maybe creep some printable bookmarks on Etsy?

Any who, this just makes me want all the books now.  If I had the money, this is exactly what I would buy.  PS. The pre-order prices are crazy cheap, totally worth the investment if you can.

Slumps are for Chumps | Blogger Appreciation!

Happy Monday everybody! ¬†Today’s prompt in¬†Slumps Are For Chumps – Book Blogging Adventure¬†is to spread the love and talk about 10 book bloggers that you love. ¬†Whether it’s their content or personality (maybe both!), it’s time to highlight them. ¬†I think this prompt is my favorite one out of the entire month because it helps spread positivity throughout the blogger world.

So, if you’re tagged, just know that I really admire your blog and if I couldn’t fit you in I wish I could! ¬†I really admire every single person’s blog that I follow. ¬†If you’re tagged and feeling the love, consider making your own version of this. ¬†Not only does it make YOU feel good, it makes others feel good too!¬†:).

I have to stop this post here for now! My WordPress isn’t loading properly on Safari >:/.¬† I’ll make another version of this post in the future for all you lovelies ūüôā

The Mythological Creature Tag!

For my monthly bookish blogging adventure:¬†Slumps are for Chumps (get deets¬†here), one of the prompts in the upcoming¬†week is to do the Mythological Creatures Tag. ¬†Since I haven’t seen one floating around,¬†I decided to make it and publish it early so everyone can get it on time.

Instructions: For each mythological creature, think of a character/creature from a book that shares a similar theme (or fits it perfectly!).  Serpents, automatons, sea monsters, etc Рthis tag has it all! :).

Note: this isn’t really popping up in Reader, so you might need to go to my blog to see all the pictures + gifs.

The most epic serpent in any book I’ve read was,¬†of course, Nagini in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows¬†by J. K. Rowling. ¬†As Voldemort’s sidekick and one of his many horcruxes, ¬†Nagini wins all the awards.

As an aside, I got into a debate with two people on the best serpent in literature (Nagini vs. the basilisk) and Nagini undoubtedly wins each time. ¬†If you think there’s a better serpent out there leave it in the comments.

I have yet to read an awesome mermaid-themed book.  However, one that incorporated them perfectly was Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.  This is my absolute favorite HP book (and movie!) because of how well Rowling tied weird Olympic-like games with mythology and magic.

But alas, I am going to choose Eragon … from¬†Eragon by Christopher Paolini. ¬†An epic fantasy book that really should be on everyones “Read” shelves.

I think one of my most favorite sea monster scene in a book¬†was the huge squid-like (Kraken?) one in the¬†Tiger’s Curse¬†series by¬†Colleen¬†Houck. ¬†It¬†was¬†awesome. ¬†I thought about considering¬†Moby Dick¬†but does that¬†really count? Whales be whales, yo.

100%. HANDS DOWN. FOREVER.  The moment I saw automatons I knew I had to include them.  They were so crazy badass in The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare.  PS. It is so unfair that these new covers are so beautiful! I want them all @_@

For those who have followed my blog for awhile, you know that I have a love for the book¬†Halfway to the Grave. ¬†There’s a super funny scene where a ghost¬†fools around with the¬†one of the characters in a graveyard. It’s prime. :]

I was actually in a fierce debate with which book I’ve read had the best spider (I tend to go for the best ;)). ¬†I got tied between Aragog from¬†Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J. K. Rowling and Charlotte from¬†Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White. ¬†Two totally different spiders with two¬†totally different plans.

Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 10.52.48 PMtumblr_mqrh1jZepZ1rnrf6do1_500.gif

I’m settling on Cassandra Clare’s¬†The Mortal Instruments series, because I seriously loved it. ¬†I loved the demons, downworlders, nephilim, angels, all dat.
Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 10.42.28 PMHP5-03045.jpg

Although I’m using a¬†Harry Potter still above, I’m going to choose¬†The Chronicles of Narnia¬†by C. S. Lewis as having some awesome centaurs in it. ¬†I was looking at Goodreads and apparently P. C. Cast has 7 top rated centaur books? ¬†So that’s a thing.

Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 10.57.12 PMtumblr_lmlvah5nv61qhd14co1_500

You know what I’ve realized?¬†Harry Potter¬†has it all. ¬†However,¬†Tigers Curse¬†by Colleen Houck has a portion devoted to a phoenix because Kishan is a little shit (fact).

Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 11.00.12 PMtumblr_nto4pfbOsA1uv7bcuo2_500.gif

I’m going to plainly lay it out there: I have not read a good sirens book. ¬†The last two (possibly only two) I read were¬†The Siren by Kiera Cass and¬†Atlantia¬†by Ally Condie. UGH. ¬†Unless I’m missing something, YA authors have not gotten it right.

Slumps are for Chumps | Day One: Tag

Happy April 1st everybody! ¬†If you didn’t know, I made a month-long bookish meme called Slumps are for Chumps |¬†Book Blogging Adventure”, you can find the details¬†here. ¬†Today is the first day so come join! ¬†I think I chose some pretty fun prompts :). ¬†Today’s prompt is to play a really cruel bookish April Fools Joke or to do a¬†Book Blogger Confessions tag. ¬†I chose to do the latter, of course!

You can find the details of this tag here.

Without further ado, let’s get started!

1. Which book, most recently, did you not finish?

Ooooh, I had to think about it for a second but I read the first few chapters of¬†Sword and Verse¬†by Kathy MacMillan and never really picked it up after that. ¬†I have¬†no idea why but I never gave it a solid chance. ¬†I’ll have to pick it up again.

2. Which book is your guilty pleasure?

I totally remember making a post a few months back of some of my guilty pleasure books and this one made the list. ¬†I thought this looked better than¬†Fifty Shades of Grey. ¬†ūüėČ

3. Which book do you love to hate?

So I am¬†trying not to shred this book so much but I have¬†never,¬†ever, liked anything written by Holly Black. ¬†I totally wish I could, but even Cassandra Clare didn’t redeem this book for me.

4) Which book would you throw into the sea?

I’m trying to shuffle around books I talk about, but this was one book I pretty much loathed. ¬†Other books include¬†Spy Glass by Maria V. Snyder,¬†If I Stay by Gayle Foreman,¬†Paper Towns by John Green, and¬†Maze Runner by James Dashner. *hisses*

5) Which book have you read the most?

I have no idea but I know these are in the top 4 of my life. ¬†I’ve read these books (and series!) way too many times to count

6) Which book would you hate to receive as a present?

That ending tho. *hisses more*

7) Which book could you not live without?

One of my top books of life, Throne of Glass by SJM is my top series ever.  Right beside my undying love for Harry Potter (of course).

8. Which book made you the angriest?

Everyone and their mothers probably know the book that has made me the absolute angriest. ¬†It’s the¬†Glass¬†series by Maria V. Snyder. I am HISSING for days! ¬†I love the¬†Chronicles of Ixia but I just can’t support a series where the MC ¬†(SPOILER WAS HERE OH GOD I AM SORRY MY FRIENDS)

9) Which book made you cry the most?

Oh¬†gosh¬†the feeeeels. ¬†The feels! ¬†TFIOS by John Green and¬†Tuesdays with Morrie¬† are in the top rank of “this made me sob uncontrollably”.

10) Which book cover do you hate the most?

I kind of noticed this tag is leaning towards the negative, so I won’t add a book cover I have “hated” the most. ¬†Rather, I shall do a book cover I love. ¬†Aren’t they pretty? n___n

Okay, that’s all! Since this is a tag, I am tagging:

Slumps Are For Chumps | Book Blogging Adventure

Hey everyone! ¬†A week or so ago I asked if you guys would like me to hop on the month-long book meme train (a l√°¬†Beauty and the Bookshelf‘s March version:¬†Get Up Offa That Slump: A Blogging Extravaganza)¬†and make my own version for April. ¬†I got some really positive feedback so I thought I’d do it! ¬†We all go through the dreaded slumps of blogging and I thought making some fun prompts would really help me (and hopefully you!) out.

Thus, here is the April theme: Slumps are for Chumps Book Blogging Adventure.

For the older audiences reading this: In the words of a good friend helping me with my title,¬†“it¬†sounds like my sex life”. ¬†So my title¬†must be good.. right..?

  • Three days of the week will have¬†prompts: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
  • You do not have to do every single prompt (duh,¬†you do you).
  • You¬†can jumble around the prompts¬†if you like both prompts on a certain day – just replace it¬†for one on another day… ¬†Or you could do two posts in one day. ¬†Your call :).
  • You can use the¬†headers I made! ¬†I always feel iffy using other peoples headers, but I made a¬†fancy one and¬†a simpler one just for this meme!

  • The last few days of the month still don’t have prompts, but I will post them within a week. ¬†I¬†just wanted to get this post up on time!

FRIDAY April 1:

  1. It’s April Fool’s Day!¬† In honor of all pranksters out there, make a prank post!¬† It could include a fake spoiler (*CRINGE*), a post about a book never coming out, a sequel cancellation, a book to movie adaption (that’s not actually happening)… This sounds so cruel now that I think about it… BUT THE LEGACY OF APRIL FOOLS MUST LIVE ON.
  2. It’s time to introduce yourself! ¬†I thought it would be fun to do “The¬†Book Blogger Confessions¬†tag originally created by¬†Laura. ¬†You can find the tag details¬†here.

MONDAY April 4:
¬†It’s time to spread some love and positivity in the blogosphere.¬† Make a top ten list of who your favorite book bloggers/vloggers are.¬† You can write a little something about why you appreciate them or just tag them in the post. ¬†It’s alllll about love, people!

  1. How’s your dream bookshelf looking, sparse? How’s your TBR, overflowing?¬† Today is National¬†“Go for Broke” Day, and in honor of it I’m metaphorically giving you $100 to buy whatever bookish things you want.¬† Your job? Let the blogging community know how you would spend that $100.¬† Remember: ONLY BOOKISH ITEMS.
  2. If you could introduce a new bookie to your favorite genre, what books would you recommend?  What books do you think are the best of the best, and what books would you not recommend?

FRIDAY April 8:¬† Fun fact, I love animals.¬† I love them so much that when I hear about animals/paranormal sidekicks¬†taking part in a book – like Fleetfoot from Throne of Glass –¬†I get SO EXCITED.¬† Make a list (add some photos if you’re feeling extra creative!) of some animal/paranormal/demonic/whatever sidekicks that you love.

  1. Go to “Reader” and find a tag you haven’t done – even if you haven’t been tagged in it.
  2. Do¬†The Mythological Creature Tag:¬†I’m feeling some love for Percy Jackson and mythology. ¬†I made the tag earlier this month so I could link it, but you can find it¬†here!.

  1. One of my favorite days of the year is National Bookmobile Day.¬† It’s purpose is¬†to honor access to information and resources that bookmobiles provide.¬† So what’s the prompt today? It’s a cruel one.¬† You’re going to a deserted island for 6 months with NO TECHNOLOGY OR MAIL and you can only take 5 books with you.¬† Yep, FIVE.¬† Give us a list, tell us why.¬† ūüėČ
  2. If the above prompt is too much for your soul, you can always do the Desert Island Book Tag.

FRIDAY APRIL 15: Today is National Day of Silence.¬† The¬†Day of Silence¬†is the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network‚Äôs (GLSEN) annual day of action to protest the bullying and harassment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) students and their supporters. ¬†Students take a day-long vow of silence to symbolically represent the silencing of LGBT students and their supporters.”¬† Make a list of your favorite LGBTQ books, characters, or couples!¬† Let’s spread the love, folks.

MONDAY APRIL 18: Some of my favorite blog posts / fan arts consist of seeing what people think book characters look like.

  1. Choose a book and show us your interpretation of the characters.  You can use photos of actors or fan art (just remember to credit the artist if possible!)
  2. Talk about a book -> TV/movie adaptation where you think they got the actor(s) wrong.

  1. You know what I appreciate? An author who writes a solid battle scene. ¬†Are you nodding along with me? Because when they’re done right it’s beautiful. ¬†Today’s prompt is for you to tell us your top five list of epic battle scenes in literature.¬† It could be an all out war, a confrontation with the enemy, or even a badass fight scene (a l√° Aelin from TOG).
  2. Today is¬†National Look Alike Day, so it’s time to put the book world on blast (or defend it!). ¬†If you’re feeling extra fiery, extra sassy, extra frustrated¬†because we have¬†all¬†seen this – let it out. ¬†You can talk about two books that are¬†way too similar, overused book tropes, etc. ¬†Don’t totally shit on books/authors though, we do have a reputation to maintain! ¬†Phrases like “suspicious“, “oddly similar”, “what a coincidence”,¬†“perhaps questionable” are all welcome.

FRIDAY APRIL 22: ¬†Today is¬†Earth Day. ¬†This annual day is held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. ¬†The¬†concept of Earth Day was established in 1969 at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco. ¬†I think we all forget once in awhile how lucky we are to have a place to live and a world to actually exist on. ¬†Since¬†most of¬†our books take place all throughout the world, let’s share the love and talk about it!

  1. Do the Around the World book tag here.  If you feel daring add a little twist (see #2!)
  2. Find a picture of¬†a map and generally¬†pinpoint¬†where certain book “worlds” are. ¬†Try to use at least 5 different series if you’re doing it by country, or 5+ if you’re doing it in the USA. ¬†Here are some examples:
    • If you read fantasy, pinpoint places you think the worlds would be -> e.g¬†Lord of the Rings would be in New Zealand.
    • Stiefvaters¬†Raven Boys series deals¬†a lot with¬†Ley lines, maybe mark different places you think they’d appear.
    • If it’s a dystopia, show a general area of where it is.

MONDAY APRIL 25: Today is National¬†Pigs in a Blanket Day. ¬†What’s that, you ask? ¬†In the U.S. a “pig in a blanket” is the name for¬†hot dogs or¬†sausages¬†wrapped in biscuit dough or croissant dough and baked. ¬†This got me thinking of those cheesy sayings: “you’re the peanut to my butter”, “the mac to my cheese”, “the glaze on my donut”, etc. ¬†And then I started thinking of my love for¬†solid couples/friends/parabatai/whatever in fiction. ¬†Make a list of your top OTP’s, couples, friends, etc. ¬†They do not have to be romantically involved.¬† *Fan art of these OTP’s and their epic moments are¬†always loved and appreciated*
